License Renewal Coverage Dates and Deadlines

Effective November 8, we plan to update how license coverage dates are calculated to keep renewal terms more consistent and predictable. This article explains how your license coverage dates are calculated and how long you have to renew after a license expires.

SituationResult
Purchasing a new licenseCoverage starts on your purchase date and ends 1 year after.
Renewing a license before expiration dateCoverage picks up immediately after your current term ends, and you will be covered for one year after.
Renewing after expiration, but within 180 daysCoverage is calculated from your license's original expiration date.
Renewing 180+ days after expirationRenewal is no longer available. A new license must be purchased at admin.visualcron.com/order.aspx.

How it works

Coverage dates: When you renew a license that has already expired, your new one-year coverage term is calculated from your license's original expiration date, not the date you complete payment.

Example: License expires January 1. You renew April 1. Your license expiration date would remain fixed at January 1 (one year from the original expiration date, meaning 3 months of that year have already passed by the time you renew).

Renewal deadline: Licenses can now be renewed for up to 180 days after their expiration date. After that window closes, the license can no longer be renewed. A new license must be purchased instead at admin.visualcron.com/order.aspx.

Using the same example: the 180-day window closes June 30. Renewing by then is treated as a standard renewal. Renewing July 1 or later is not possible and requires a new license purchase.

The takeaway: renewing before your license expires gets you the most coverage out of your new term.

Regarding Legacy Licenses: Legacy licenses (such as Perpetual licenses) are our grandfathered license models, which have been discontinued. If you wish to continue renewing a legacy license, you can continue to do so. However, once a license is expired for 180+ days, the license cannot be renewed and one of our new SKUs (subscription licenses) would need to be purchased on our website.

If you wish to continue with your legacy license, please continue to renew prior to your expiration date in order to maintain coverage for a full year. If you need help determining if your license is legacy, please feel free to reach out to sales@visualcron.com.

Why we're making this change

This change allows us to ensure coverage is consistent and predictable across all licenses. Continuous coverage leads to a smoother experience and allows us to better support you. While we are placing more focus on the subscription licenses available at admin.visualcron.com/order.aspx, at the same time, we remain committed to our customers on legacy license models. Renewing prior to your expiration date ensures that you will be able to renew your current license model going forward and provides you the best benefit overall.
